Class 11 Computer Science | Chapter - Computer System | Topic - Hardware

What are the different types of input devices for computer?

Input Device is used to give instructions to a computer. This is the main component of a computer, so without input devices we can’t give operate a computer. There are many input devices used to perform a task in computer.
1) Keyboard: Keyboard is a standard input device. It types text to give command to a computer. A keyboard has many keys like number keys, alphabet keys, special keys, and function keys. On top line keys are arranged as QWERTY, so it is also called QWERTY keyboard. A keyboard contains 101 to 108 keys. It is divided into two categories Standard Keyboard and Multimedia Keyboard.

2) Mouse: Mouse is a pointing device which has made easy to use computer. It can move at any corner of the screen. It has left and right two buttons and one wheel to give instructions to a computer. It is divided into three categories Analog Mouse, Optical Mouse, and Cordless Mouse.

3) Scanner: A scanner is used to scan a document to convert into a digital form to save in hard disc. It reflects light on a document and makes a same soft copy of it. It is divided into two categories Hand held Scanner and Flatbed Scanner.

4) Joystick: A Joystick is a gaming input device which is used to move objects on a screen. It has many buttons which gives full control in a game like jumping, firing, sitting etc.

5) OMR: OMR (optical mark reader) input device is used to sense marks on a paper. It is generally used to evaluate answers marked dark circles in answer sheet. It is mainly used in competition exam to check thousands of answer sheets.

6) MICR: MICR (magnetic ink character reader) input device is used to scan bank cheques to get information like bank name, branch code, and cheque number which are printed with magnetic ink (iron oxide) . On the ATM card a black stripe magnetic stripe also contains information which is read when we insert a card in ATM.

7) Light Pen: Light Pen is pen like input device which is used to draw lines on a screen. Light pen is generally used by digital artists to draw and teachers for online classes.

8) Barcode Reader: Barcode reader input device is used to read vertical black bars on products in shopping malls which contains product details such as product name, quantity, prize, manufacturing date etc.

9) Microphone: Microphone input device is used to record voice in a computer. It also helps in online video conference to communicate with each other.

10) Web Camera: Webcam input device is used to capture video to real time save in a computer. It is also used in video conference for real time communication. Webcams are also used for security and surveillance (CCTV) purposes for monitoring the activity.

What are the 4 types of outputs devices?

Output devices gives results after processing the data. A user gets results from output devices. There are different types of output devices used in a computer.

1) Monitor: A monitor is a standard output device which gives results in a soft form. It is just like a TV displays pictures and videos on screen. There are three types of monitors: LCD (Liquid Crystal Display), and LED (Light Emitting Diode), and TFT (Thin Film Transistor).

2) Speaker: A speaker output device gives result in a form of sound. It converts electrical signals into sound waves.

3) Printer: A printer output device gives hard copy of a digital document. It prints black and white text and colorful pictures. There are two types of printers: Impact printer and Non impact printer.

4) Plotter: A plotter is just like printer which prints high quality poster, flex, and charts. It can print on paper, plastic, and polyester. There are different types of plotter like Flatbed Plotter, Drum Plotter, and Inkjet Plotter.

What are the 2 types of printers give an example of each type?

Printer is a output device which is used to take hard copy of a document. It can print black and white text and high quality photographs. According to it printing quality, speed, and mechanism, printers are divided into two categories.

1) Impact Printer: Impact printer prints the content by striking the printer head on ink ribbon to make a mark on paper, so it makes noise, printing time on paper like typing machine. There are two types of impact printers:

i) Line Printer: A Line printer prints content line by line like typing machine. It can print 300 to 3000 lines per minutes, so it has good printing capacity. It can print only one color depends on the ribbon. For example: Drum Printer, Chain Printer.

ii) Character Printer: A character printer prints content character by character, so it is slower than line printer and prints one color. For example: Dot Matrix Printer, Daisy Wheel Printer.

2) Non-Impact Printer: An impact printer prints the content without striking on paper, so it prints without any noise unlike Impact printer. It uses inkjet technology, laser beam, and chemical to print on a paper. It can print black and white text and high quality pictures.

i) Inkjet Printer: An inkjet printer prints high quality output by spraying ink drops on paper. This printer has cartridge with tiny holes with spray inks. It can print 2 to 10 pages per minutes.

ii) Laser Printer: A laser printer prints using laser technology. It works as same manner as photocopy machine does. It stores the page content on memory before printout. It can print 5 to 300 pages per minute.

What is computer memory?

A computer memory is a device which is used to save data for future purpose. There are two types of computer memory:
What are the 2 types of memory?
Type of Computer Memory

1) Primary Memory: Primary memory is important to run a computer, so without primary memory computer doesn't work. It is placed inside the computer, so it is also called Internal Memory. For example: RAM (Random Access Memory), ROM (Read Only Memory)

2) Secondary Memory: Secondary Memory is used to save data for future reuse. It is placed outside the computer, so it is also called External Memory. For example: PD (Pen Drive), CD (Compact Disc), HD (Hard Disc)
