What is Domain Name and IP (Internet Protocol) Address in Internet?
There is no central administration of internet, with millions of users. It was almost impossible to differentiate or address them. An addressing system was designed by IETF (Internet Engineering Task Force) . This addressing scheme assigns names and numbers to identify the computers on the Internet. These names are called domain names and numbers are called Internet Protocol (IP address). Every computer system on the Internet has both domain name and IP address.

Explain IP (Internet Protocol) in Internet?
An IP address is made up of a single 32 bits number (for example, 0000000111 000000111100001111001000111000100101011). This number will always be tough to remember, therefore it has been divided into four 8-bit segments called octet likewise (10111001 . 11110000 . 00011010 . 00111100) these 8-bit are separated by dots. The smallest 8 bits number is 00000000 and the largest is 11111111 which correspond to 0 and 255 respectively.
Each IP address has two parts:
1) Network Address
2) Local Address
The first octet in the four segments represents the network address and the rest three octets makeup the host address / Local Address . Every computer on the Internet has its own unique IP address.
Explain Different types of Domain names in Internet.
Domain Name |
Description |
.com |
A company or commercial organization ex. Google.com |
.edu |
Education Institution(universities, school) |

Network resources or Internet Service Provider (ISP) |
.org |
Other organizations, mainly non-commercial |
Initially the success of the Internet was not anticipated and hence no provision was made to include domains of other countries. But with the global spread of the Internet the above domain naming convention need to be extended to accommodate computers located outside the USA. This was done by adding two letter abbreviations for every country.
Abbreviation |
Country Name |

https:// Protocol
in RUL the first part up to colon(:) tells the browser that what type of server it will connect to and what type of protocol to use. The protocol is always followed by “://”
WWW: Host computer name where website is saved.
.com: Domain Type
The URL may point to another document or image. The information about the link is provided to the browser by the URL.
